The Guide: Tips for your first visit to Sangha!

Before your first class:

What to bring:

You will need a Yoga mat and water bottle, we also recommend a full size towel in addition to Yoga mat for Hot classes, particularly Hot 26&2, you will get sweaty! We have Mat and Towel hire, plus water, available to purchase at the desk

You may wish to bring or rent an extra towel for showering after class. (2 shower rooms available) We have a hair dryer & hair straighteners if you are heading straight to work or out and want to get ready! The studio is open for 30 minutes after class finishes.

What To Wear

Wear light clothing suitable for sweating for Hot classes, leggings or shorts and a sports bra or tank are ideal. Try not to wipe your sweat off with a towel during class. The sweat to evaporating off your skin is your body's cooling mechanism. Wiping makes you hotter and there’s just more sweat behind it!

Many of our classes are ambient temperature and slower paced, ie Yin Yoga, in which case wear comfortable clothes and perhaps an extra jumper'/layer for Savasanah or long held poses in stillness.

Studio etiquette:

Do your best to be dressed, ready and on your mat a few minutes before class starts, & stay for the whole class, your practice is a commitment to a shared experience, arriving late or leaving early messes with the mojo…

Our space is held for quiet meditation and reflection before and after classes, if you have something to say please keep it to a whisper.

Our Yoga rooms are Device free zones, no cellphones or devices that beep etc in the Yoga rooms, and please put your device on silent in the storage cubbies in the reception area.

Do your best to follow the verbal cues and move in unison with the group, rest in stillness or modify poses if needed (please discuss with your instructor before class how best to manage your individual needs within the group setting) Be mindful of others in the space and take care to minimise distractions/disruptions.

Arrive early, ideally 15-20 minutes before class begins

Allow time for parking:

We have 11 on site parks. Two rows of parking outside reception. 3 spaces on the gravel, (please leave enough space for 3 cars to fit). If the parks are full, use street parking along Industrial place or in the large car park at the bottom of Industrial Place / Gorge road.

-Check in for your class using the device at the front desk.

Let your teacher know about any injuries or medical concerns before class. You can also email the manager if you prefer not to discuss it in the office and we can notify our teachers of your personal needs. Email Helen - info@queenstownyoga.com.

- If you need to rent a mat or towel , or buy water, please see the front desk team, these items are kept at the desk (mats hung up in the room have been used…). After class hang your mat on the rack (or roll and place underneath) and place used towels in the basket next to the hot room door.

- Set up a spot in the room and grab any props you may need for the class, your teacher will mention any that are necessary/recommended. If you are new to Hot classes you may wish to get a spot at the back of the room near the windows or door, they are our cooler spots.
